Dragon Boats
(this one won, gold, silver, and hm in three different contests)
My limbs are saturated
with fatigue,
from pushing through the movements.
One stroke, then another
I push for all I am worth.
The motion is somewhat soothing,
moments of time suspended
in the exhilaration.
The sounds of the paddles
whispering a prayer into the water,
forming ripples against the tide.
I feel your ghostly hand
on my bony shoulder,
and your voice in my ear..
“paddle faster Sis".
No time for tears today,
or thoughts of outrunning cancer.
I dig deeper
looking for that something extra
to pull the dragon boat forward.
We are all survivors here...
just hoping to make it,
across the finish line.
(this one won gold in a contest)
