This is my second most popular poem on the poetry site and it was written for the picture. It is one of my favorite.
I Searched For You
I heard you calling,
from each hollow calcification,
tasting of acrimonious water
and decomposed minerals.
The tongues of the ancient,
softly reciting your name.
In dark dank places
a stretch of light
revealed your hidden beauty.
It rattled loose
offering up everything
that once was.
Primitive spaces,
where warriors sang conquest songs
while the tender hearted
burned with desire.
Primeval invitation to wander
wayward paths where
the taste of holiness still resides.
I searched for you there,
where those great poets once
found victory.
Oh blessed verse..
how wonderful you are.
