How To Catch A Dying Star

This is one of my most popular poems on the poem site and has won three gold trophies and several silver and one bronze..it was written for a quote. It also is the poem most commented on and it will be in a book of poetry I am working on.

10."If I gathered all the burnt out stars in the sky would it bring back that broken smile of yours" - Unknown

How To Catch A Dying Star..by Dee Edgett

I have become
a gardener of moonlight,
constantly shifting its reflection
into the space-less-ness
that you have left behind.

I tunnel across the sky
rescuing dying stars,
I turn them over
looking for any leftover glitter
from yesterday’s wishes.

I dig at your memory
like a bewildered cat
scratching too hard
at a speck of sunlight
it found, jumping along
the edge of the walls.

I put you away,
then pull you out again.
I don’t understand
why I can’t be done
with  this endless recycling
of leftover love and dying stars.
